PRP Hair Treatment

Date Published: August 11, 2020

PRP Hair Rejuvenation By Dr.Natalie Waller, ND Platelet Rich Plasma Hair Rejuvenation is one of the most effective procedures to target thinning hair. It is completely safe since the PRP is sourced naturally from your own blood, eliminating any risk of allergy or reaction. When injected into the scalp, PRP is highly effective in releasing growth factors to stimulate stem cells, which promote hair growth. It is most beneficial for Androgenetic Alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss), but has also been used for Telogen effluvium (hair loss due to stress and post-partum), and Alopecia Areata (autoimmune response).

What is PRP and how is it Obtained? Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an injectable method of regenerating cells and tissue in your body using plasma from your own blood. Platelets are essential for tissue healing and are normally released by blood cells as a response to tissue damage. Their role in healing is to release a variety of growth factors. These growth factors work together with tissue-repair mechanisms to stimulate mulitpotent cells to repair and rebuild the injured site.

A small volume of blood is drawn from the patients arm and then centrifuged to separate and concentrate the platelets into the plasma. The platelet rich plasma is removed and combined with Calcium Chloride to activate the platelets. The activated PRP forms a gel, which is then injected into the desired areas.

FAQs When will I notice results? Benefits may be noticed as early as 3 weeks, but 6 weeks is more realistic. How many treatments will I need? While benefits are noticed even after just one treatment, full response requires 2-4 treatments depending on the individual and extent of hair loss. Can I do this treatment if I am bald? PRP Hair treatments work to restore the original size of the hair follicle and to stimulate growth. If the hair follicle has died and is no longer present, PRP will not bring it back. Will it hurt? PRP is an injection treatment and there is some associated discomfort. Pain can be minimized with the use of local anaesthetic. Some patients experience a slight headache or minor swelling temporally following the procedure. How long is the procedure? PRP Hair Rejuvenation is about 30-45min depending on the individual. Do I need to do a consultation first? Dr. Natalie does suggest you book a consultation with her prior to booking in order to qualify you for the procedure as there are certain contraindications that apply. Consultation is $100 which will act as your deposit towards your first session. Book a consultation with Dr. Natalie Waller for PRP Hair Rejuvenation.
